Post- Treatment Care (Apicoectomy/Hemisection)
HOME INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOWING ENDODONTIC SURGERY
WHAT TO DO FOLLOWING SURGERY:
1. After leaving this office, rest and avoid strenuous activities for the remainder of the day. No physical activity for 48 hours.
2. Take medications as directed to maintain comfort.
3. Apply an ice bag to the outside of your face, over the operated area. Apply for 20 minutes, remove for 20 minutes. Continue the applications for the first 4-6 hours of the first day only.
4. Eat soft cool foods only, for the first 24 hours
5. Avoid chewing in the operated area until the sutures are removed.
6. Avoid heavy lifting. It is possible to accidentally tear the suture, open the incision and delay healing.
7. Do not apply heat packs to the face.
8. Use warm SEA SALT water rinses.
9. Return to this office for suture removal as directed.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOLLOWING SURGERY:
1. Some discomfort will usually be present. Severe pain seldom occurs.
2. There may be some swelling and discoloration present for 3-5 days following surgery. This is a normal part of the healing process.
3. There is often a temporary loss of feeling loose for a time.
4. The operated tooth may feel loose for a time.
5. Motrin 600mg 4-6hours as needed.
6. Finish ALL the antibiotic
